Oxidative Stress Statues in Serum and Follicular Fluid of Women with Endometriosis.

This cross-sectional study compared oxidative stress markers in serum and follicular fluid from 63 women under 40 undergoing IVF/ICSI, with 43 having laparoscopically confirmed endometriosis and 20 undergoing laparoscopy without macroscopic endometriosis. Using FRAP to assess total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and TBA-based assays to quantify lipid peroxidation via malondialdehyde (MDA)/LPO, the authors found significantly lower TAC in follicular fluid of endometriosis patients versus controls and significantly higher LPO in both serum and follicular fluid, with serum LPO higher than follicular fluid. A stated limitation is that antioxidant capacity was measured broadly (TAC) rather than individual antioxidant components, and the study design was cross-sectional with no correlation between serum and follicular fluid TAC. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it quantifies oxidative stress (lower follicular fluid TAC and higher LPO) in serum and follicular fluid in women with laparoscopically confirmed endometriosis.
