Combination Effect of Caffeine and Caffeic Acid Treatment on the Oxidant Status of Ectopic Endometrial Cells Separated from Patients with Endometriosis.
Caffeic acid treatment, alone or with caffeine, reduced oxidative stress markers and increased antioxidant activity in ectopic endometrial cells from endometriosis patients.

The study examined how caffeine, caffeic acid, or their combination affect oxidative stress in ectopic endometrial cells from women with endometriosis, compared with eutopic endometrial cells from disease-free women, using biopsy-derived cells. In an experimental design (n=10 per group), the researchers measured antioxidant enzyme activities and levels of glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) after separating the cells into treatment and control groups. Caffeic acid, but not caffeine alone, lowered MDA and increased GSH and antioxidant enzyme activities in ectopic endometrial cells, and caffeine+caffeic acid produced effects similar to caffeic acid; the paper notes that further studies are needed to assess caffeic acid’s efficiency and safety. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it evaluates caffeine and caffeic acid effects on oxidative status specifically in ectopic endometrial cells from endometriosis patients.
