Antioxidant supplementation reduces endometriosis-related pelvic pain in humans
This study investigated if antioxidant supplementation with vitamins E and C would decrease peritoneal fluid oxidation biomarkers and pelvic pain in women with endometriosis.

The paper studied whether antioxidant vitamin supplementation (vitamins E and C) could ameliorate endometriosis-associated symptoms in a randomized, placebo-controlled trial of 59 women aged 19–41 with pelvic pain and a history of endometriosis or infertility. Participants received the vitamin combination or placebo daily for 8 weeks before surgery, with pain assessed at baseline and biweekly and inflammatory markers measured in peritoneal fluid at the end of therapy. Antioxidant treatment was associated with improved chronic pelvic pain in 43% of participants (P = 0.0055) and reductions in dysmenorrhea (37%) and dyspareunia (24%), alongside significant decreases in peritoneal inflammatory markers including RANTES, interleukin-6, and monocyte chemotactic protein-1 compared with placebo. The paper’s limitation, as described, is that it measured outcomes over a relatively short pre-surgical treatment window and relied on peritoneal-fluid sampling taken at end of therapy. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it tests antioxidant supplementation and reports reductions in endometriosis-related pelvic pain and peritoneal inflammatory markers.
