Levels of lipid perioxides and superoxide dismutase in peritoneal fluid of patients with endometriosis
This study measured lipid peroxides and superoxide dismutase in peritoneal fluid, finding elevated lipid peroxides but not superoxide dismutase in women with endometriosis compared to those without.

The study measured lipid peroxides (LPO) and the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) in peritoneal fluid from infertile women with endometriosis and from infertile women with a normal pelvis. It found that LPO levels and SOD levels were significantly higher in the endometriosis group than in the normal pelvis group (P<0.01). The authors suggest that free oxygen radicals may play a role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis-associated infertility.
