The study measured lipid peroxides (LPO) and the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) in peritoneal fluid from infertile women with endometriosis and from infertile women with a normal pelvis. It found that LPO levels and SOD levels were significantly higher in the endometriosis group than in the normal pelvis group (P<0.01). The authors suggest that free oxygen radicals may play a role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis-associated infertility. This paper is centrally about endometriosis—specifically, it evaluates oxidative stress markers (lipid peroxides and superoxide dismutase) in peritoneal fluid of affected patients.

Summary In order to evaluate the changes of lipid perioxides (LPO) and Superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels in peritoneal fluid in patients with endometriosis, the levels of LPO and SOD in peritoneal fluids from infertile women with endometriosis and with normal pelvis were measured. The result showed that the levels of LPO but SOD was elevated significantly in peritoneal fluid from women with endometriosis than in women with normal pelvis (P< 0.01). It is suggested that free oxygen radicals may be involved in the pathogenesis of endometriosis associated infertility. Similar content being viewed by others References American Fertility Society.
