Cracking the enigma of adenomyosis: an update on its pathogenesis and pathophysiology
This review updates understanding of adenomyosis pathogenesis and pathophysiology, proposing a new endometrial-myometrial interface disruption (EMID) hypothesis supported by a mouse model and implicating Schwann cells, and viewing lesions as repeatedly injured and repaired wounds that progress to fibrosis, impacting diagnosis and therapeutics.
