Frequency of endometriotic lesions in peritoneum samples from asymptomatic fertile women and correlation with CA125 values
This study found minimal/mild endometriosis in 16.25% of asymptomatic women undergoing sterilization, with no correlation to serum CA125 levels.

This cross-sectional study investigated the frequency of endometriotic lesions in peritoneal tissue and assessed whether serum CA125 levels correlated with histopathologically confirmed lesions in 80 asymptomatic fertile women undergoing tubal sterilization, with CA125 measured from blood and peritoneal biopsies examined. Histopathology found minimal or mild endometriosis in 16.25% of participants, and there was no statistically significant difference in CA125 levels between women with and without endometriosis. The authors note that the lack of CA125 diagnostic value and the presence of incidental minimal/mild lesions support the idea that not all detected lesions have clinical significance, but the study’s conclusions are limited by its cross-sectional design and restricted asymptomatic population. Relevance to endometriosis: the paper is directly about endometriosis—specifically the frequency of minimal/mild endometriotic peritoneal lesions in fertile asymptomatic women and the (non-)correlation with CA125—though it does not address adenomyosis.
