The Effect of Combined Vitamin C and Vitamin E Supplementation on Oxidative Stress Markers in Women with Endometriosis: A Randomized, Triple-Blind Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial
Combined vitamin C and E supplementation significantly reduced oxidative stress markers, pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, and dyspareunia in women with endometriosis compared to placebo.

This randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled trial studied 60 reproductive-aged women with laparoscopically proven endometriosis and pelvic pain, comparing daily coadministration of vitamin C (1000 mg/day) plus vitamin E (800 IU/day) versus placebo for 8 weeks, with outcomes including oxidative stress markers and pain severity measured repeatedly using VAS. The intervention significantly reduced peripheral malondialdehyde (MDA) and ROS levels compared with placebo, but did not change total antioxidant capacity (TAC); pain related to dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, and chronic pelvic pain decreased in at least some timepoints within the vitamin group, and intergroup comparisons showed greater reductions for several pain measures versus placebo. A key caveat is that baseline MDA and ROS were already lower in the placebo group, requiring ANCOVA for some primary comparisons, and TAC showed no effect. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it tests whether combined vitamin C and vitamin E supplementation lowers oxidative stress and improves pelvic pain outcomes in women with endometriosis.
