Cytokine Profiling in the Eutopic Endometrium of Adenomyosis During the Implantation Window After Ovarian Stimulation
Adenomyosis patients undergoing ovarian stimulation show altered endometrial cytokine profiles, with higher IL-6 and MCP-1 and lower IL-10, potentially impacting receptivity.

This prospective case-control study profiled inflammatory cytokines in eutopic endometrium during the implantation window after ovarian stimulation in 18 patients with adenomyosis and 24 IVF control patients, using multiplex immunoassays on endometrial secretions collected 7 days after hCG injection (hCG+7) along with immunohistochemistry and quantitative real-time PCR. Compared with controls, adenomyosis endometrium secretions showed higher IL-6, lower IL-10, higher IL-17 and interferon-γ, and higher MCP-1, and tissue analyses indicated increased CD-68+, IL-6, and MCP-1 expression with decreased IL-10 in adenomyosis endometrial epithelia. A major limitation explicitly reflected in the design is that the study correlates cytokine differences with implantation-window status rather than directly proving causality for impaired endometrial receptivity. This paper is centrally about adenomyosis — it characterizes eutopic endometrial cytokine and macrophage-related differences during the IVF implantation window after ovarian stimulation.
