Abnormal regulation of chemokine TECK and its receptor CCR9 in the endometriotic milieu is involved in pathogenesis of endometriosis by way of enhancing invasiveness of endometrial stromal cells
Abnormal regulation of chemokine TECK and its receptor CCR9 in endometriosis enhances endometrial stromal cell invasiveness, contributing to the disease's pathogenesis.

This paper investigates how thymus-expressed chemokine (TECK/CCL25) and its receptor CCR9 are regulated in the endometriotic milieu and whether this affects invasiveness of endometrial stromal cells (ESCs). Using endometriosis-associated cells, it reports that both 17β-estradiol and dioxin (TCDD) increase TECK secretion and enhance ESC invasiveness by increasing matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9 expression, while neutralizing TECK with anti-TECK antibodies inhibits ESC invasiveness and MMP-2/MMP-9 expression. It also finds increased CCR9 and TECK expression in patient endometriotic milieu, supporting a model where overexpressed TECK engages CCR9 on ESCs to contribute to disease onset and progression. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it focuses specifically on abnormal TECK/CCR9 regulation in the endometriotic environment and its role in promoting ESC invasion.
