Status and related factors of postoperative recurrence of ovarian endometriosis: a cross-sectional study of 874 cases

This cross-sectional multicenter study enrolled 874 women with pathology-diagnosed ovarian endometriosis who underwent surgery in 27 hospitals (Jan 2019–Nov 2021) and used clinician-completed questionnaires to record postoperative recurrence status and potential related factors, including dysmenorrhea and the presence of adenomyosis. Recurrence rates were reported as 6.27% within 1 year, 35.85% at 1–2 years, 55.38% at 2–3 years, 65.00% at 3–4 years, and 56.82% at 4–5 years, with older age at surgery identified as an independent protective factor while dysmenorrhea and adenomyosis were independent risk factors in multivariate logistic regression. The authors note a key limitation that, unlike longitudinal follow-up studies, their design only counted recurrence status after surgery and differs from prior work in recurrence definitions and postoperative treatment patterns.
