Risk factors related to the recurrence of endometrioma in patients with long-term postoperative medical therapy
This study identified higher BMI, younger age at surgery, and the presence of dysmenorrhea as risk factors for endometrioma recurrence in Korean women undergoing long-term postoperative medical therapy.

This retrospective study assessed clinical risk factors for recurrence of ovarian endometrioma after ovarian cystectomy in 134 Korean women who received long-term postoperative medical therapy for at least 12 months. Endometrioma recurrence was defined by detection of a cystic mass on transvaginal or transrectal sonography during follow-up averaging 56.5 months, and overall recurrence was 26.12% (35/134). Univariate analysis linked recurrence with higher weight and BMI, younger age at surgery, larger initial cyst diameter, dysmenorrhea, and absence of postoperative pregnancy, while multivariate analysis found BMI, younger age at surgery, and presence of dysmenorrhea as significant correlates. The paper’s caveat is that it is retrospective and relies on unadjusted epidemiologic measures with recurrence assessed by imaging-based detection.
