This chapter discusses the etiology, investigation, and management of colorectal endometriosis, emphasizing that patients are often challenging and require individualized assessment. It describes increasing use of laparoscopic-assisted surgical procedures, while noting debate about how this approach may affect long-term fertility, and it outlines how rectal endometriosis treatment is tailored to patient factors and lesion progression. Surgical management is portrayed as multidisciplinary when complications such as obstruction, bleeding, perforation, or rare neoplastic transformation are present, and the chapter provides operative tips for difficult cases. Relevance to endometriosis: this chapter is specifically about colorectal endometriosis and its surgical considerations, directly focusing on rectal endometriosis management in detail.

Abstract

This chapter discusses the etiology, investigation, and management of these challenging colorectal endometriosis patients. There is an increased use of laparoscopic-assisted procedures, although there is debate concerning long-term fertility with this approach. The therapy of rectal endometriosis is individually tailored depending upon the patient and the progression of lesions, with surgical treatment requiring a combined multidisciplinary approach for complications such as obstruction, bleeding, perforation, or, rarely, neoplastic transformation. Operative tips for challenging cases are provided. Access this chapter Tax calculation will be finalised at checkout Purchases are for personal use only Similar content being viewed by others
