The paper provides an overview of endometriosis as an estrogen-dependent, chronic condition affecting women of reproductive age, characterized by endometrium-like tissue outside the uterus and commonly associated with cyclic and acyclic abdominal pain, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, and infertility. It describes current diagnostic and treatment approaches at a high level, noting that definitive diagnosis requires diagnostic laparoscopy and that individualized, sometimes interdisciplinary management can include medical, surgical, and ablative options. A major limitation is that this is a narrative chapter-style overview rather than an original study, so no specific new evidence or quantified outcomes are presented. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it summarizes its definition, symptom burden, diagnostic delay/diagnostic requirement, and treatment options.
