Endometriosis Cell Proliferation Induced by Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells increase endometrial stromal cell and endometriosis cell proliferation by activating CDK1 in vitro and in vivo.

The paper investigated whether bone marrow–derived mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (BMDCs) can indirectly drive endometriosis-associated cell proliferation by secreting trophic factors, despite not undergoing clonal expansion themselves. Using in vitro co-culture with an endometriosis cell line and primary endometrial stromal cells from women with endometriosis (but not normal endometrial cells), the authors found that BMDCs increased stromal cell proliferation and CDK1 activation, and in a mouse endometriosis model they observed increased CDK1+ expression linked to engrafted GFP+ BMDCs. A key limitation is that the study characterizes proliferative effects and CDK1 activation but does not identify the specific BMDC-secreted signaling molecules responsible. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it demonstrates BMDC-induced trophic stimulation of endometrial stromal cell proliferation and CDK1 activation in models relevant to endometriosis.
