Endometriosis Is Associated with Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes: a National Population-Based Study
This study investigated pregnancy and neonatal outcomes in women diagnosed with endometriosis, finding a significantly higher incidence of multiple pregnancy, cesarean section, breech presentation, postpartum hemorrhage, stillbirth, preterm birth, and low birth weight.

This national population-based study used Korea National Health Insurance Claims and the National Health Screening Program for Infants and Children to evaluate pregnancy and neonatal outcomes among 1,938,424 primiparous women who gave birth between 2007 and 2015, comparing those with a diagnosis of endometriosis to those without. Women with endometriosis had significantly higher incidences of multiple pregnancy, cesarean section, breech presentation, postpartum hemorrhage, placental abruption, placenta previa, and stillbirth, as well as increased rates of preterm birth and low birth weight, and these associations remained significant after adjusting for age. A major limitation is that the analysis relies on diagnostic coding in claims databases rather than detailed clinical characterization. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it quantifies associations between endometriosis diagnosis and adverse pregnancy and neonatal outcomes in a large national cohort.
