Higher SOD1 Gene Expression in Cumulus Cells From Infertile Women With Moderate and Severe Endometriosis
Infertile women with moderate/severe endometriosis had higher SOD1 expression in cumulus cells compared to controls, with SOD1 potentially indicating clinical pregnancy after ICSI.

This case–control study measured expression of antioxidant genes SOD1, SOD2, and GPX4 by real-time PCR in cumulus cells from mature oocytes in infertile women undergoing controlled ovarian stimulation for ICSI, comparing minimal/mild endometriosis (n=26), moderate/severe endometriosis (n=14), and controls (n=41). The main finding was that only the moderate/severe endometriosis group showed higher SOD1 expression in cumulus cells relative to minimal/mild and controls, and increased SOD1 expression positively interacted with clinical pregnancy occurrence. A limitation is that gene expression was assessed in cumulus cells from participants at a single time point, with no direct functional mechanism shown.
