Comorbidity of gynecological and non-gynecological diseases with adenomyosis and endometriosis
This study identified gynecological (leiomyoma, ovarian tumor) and non-gynecological (anemia, hypercholesterolemia) comorbidities significantly associated with adenomyosis and endometriosis in Korean women.

Using Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment claims (2009–2011), this study identified comorbid gynecological and non-gynecological diseases associated with adenomyosis (ICD-10 N80.1) and endometriosis (ICD-10 D25) in women who had diagnoses supported by gynecologic ultrasonography. Across 61,516 selected patients, meta-analysis of Fisher’s exact tests found 31 ICD-10 codes significantly related to adenomyosis and 44 related to endometriosis, including gynecologic conditions (e.g., leiomyoma, benign ovarian tumor) and non-gynecologic conditions such as anemia and hypercholesterolemia. The authors’ key limitation is that comorbidity was inferred from administrative diagnosis codes and selection of ultrasonography-confirmed cases, without causal inference. This paper is centrally about endometriosis and adenomyosis — it analyzes linked comorbid ICD-10 diseases in Korean women using HIRA claims data.
