Prävalenz von Depressionen und Angststörungen und ihre Einflussfaktoren bei Frauen mit Endometriose
This study found that 31.3% of women with endometriosis had mild depression, 33.3% had mild depression, 10.7% had severe anxiety, and 14.7% had comorbid severe depression and anxiety, with severity correlating to pain and quality of life.

This dissertation assessed the prevalence of depression and anxiety disorders and their influencing factors in 150 adult women with laparoscopically diagnosed, histologically confirmed endometriosis from the German Endometriosis Center Berlin. Using Beck and Hamilton scales for depression, the Beck Anxiety Inventory, alongside pain measures (Biberoglu and Behrman pain questionnaire and VAS) and quality of life (EHP-30), the study found that clinically relevant/minor depression was present in 16.7%/31.3% and severe/moderate/mild anxiety symptoms in 10.7%/20.7%/30.7%, with comorbid severe depression and anxiety in 14.7%. Depression and anxiety symptoms were significantly associated with worse EHP-30 quality-of-life subscales and with pain, especially non-menstrual lower abdominal pain, and additional factors included other endometriosis-related symptom domains and prior psychiatric conditions, while having children correlated with fewer symptoms. The paper explicitly notes prevalence rates were higher than prior to endometriosis diagnosis but, as a cross-sectional study, cannot determine causality. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it quantifies depression and anxiety prevalence and links symptom severity to pain and quality of life in women with endometriosis.
