Zusammenfassung Es gibt keine einzelne allgemeingültige Erklärung für das Auftreten einer Sterilitätsproblematik bei Patientinnen mit Endometriose. Bei kritischer Evaluation der vorhandenen Daten kann nicht einmal gefolgert werden, dass eine Endometriose grundsätzlich eine Sterilitätsproblematik nach sich zieht. Dennoch ist seit langem bekannt, dass Endometriose häufiger bei Frauen mit Sterilitätsproblematik als bei fertilen Frauen vorliegt. „Klassische“ Arbeiten konnten zeigen, dass bei 6% bis 58% aller Sterilitätspatientinnen eine Endometriose vorliegt, und dass 30% bis 50% aller Frauen mit Endometriose eine Sterilitätsproblematik auf weisen (Hull et al. 1985; Buttram et al. 1985). Neuere Studien im Rahmen laparoskopischer Eingriffe verglichen das Auftreten von Endometriose bei Sterilitätspatientinnen und bei Patientinnen, die sich zur Tubensterilisation vorstellten.
