Graves Disease Is Associated With Endometriosis
This cross-sectional study found an association between Graves disease and endometriosis, with Graves disease being more prevalent in women with endometriosis.

This cross-sectional study used Korean National Health Insurance claim data (2009–2011) to compare the prevalence of thyroid diseases, including autoimmune thyroid conditions, between women with endometriosis and matched controls using age, sampling year, and sampling weight. Endometriosis was identified via surgery codes and/or GnRH agonist or danazol prescriptions accompanied by endometriosis diagnosis codes, and thyroid diseases were identified by diagnosis codes present in claim records; the authors note limitations including possible under-ascertainment in the study window and the inability to assess causality. After adjustment for age and sampling year, Graves disease was significantly associated with endometriosis (OR 2.52, 95% CI 1.30–4.88), while hypothyroidism and autoimmune hypothyroidism were not significantly associated. The paper is centrally about endometriosis — it reports a population-based association between Graves disease and endometriosis using national health claim data.
