This paper is a comprehensive meta-analysis evaluating the diagnostic accuracy of circulating non-coding RNAs as non-invasive biomarkers for endometriosis, using a search across multiple English and Chinese databases and estimating pooled diagnostic metrics (sensitivity, specificity, likelihood ratios, diagnostic odds ratio, and ROC curves) in Stata. Across 11 published studies (453 endometriosis cases and 362 controls), the pooled general sensitivity was 0.81 and general specificity was 0.77, with an area under the ROC curve of 0.86; however, there was substantial heterogeneity (I2 = 89.62%). The authors report that meta-regression and subgroup analyses suggest heterogeneity may be related to factors such as the gold standard used, evaluation standards, experimental group size, experimental sample, and race. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it synthesizes evidence on circulating non-coding RNAs as diagnostic markers for the condition.
