Polymorphisms of ICAM-1 and IL-6 genes related to endometriosis in a sample of Brazilian women
This study investigated if ICAM-1 and IL-6 gene polymorphisms are associated with endometriosis in Brazilian women, finding no significant association for the studied polymorphisms.

This study examined whether ICAM-1 polymorphisms K469E (rs5498) and G241R (rs1799969) and the IL-6 polymorphism G634C (rs1800796) are associated with endometriosis susceptibility in 200 Brazilian women (100 with endometriosis and 100 controls), genotyped using PCR-RFLP. The authors found no significant differences in genotype frequencies between control and endometriosis groups for G634C (p = 0.61) and K469E (p = 0.22), and no significant differences across disease stages I–II versus III–IV for either SNP (p = 0.63 and p = 0.24). They also reported that all participants were wild homozygotes for the G241R polymorphism. The paper concludes that these polymorphisms are not associated with increased endometriosis susceptibility in this population.
