Participation of selected soluble cell adhesion molecules and syndecans in formation and development of endometriosis

This study measured peritoneal fluid concentrations of soluble ICAM-2, ICAM-3, ICAM-4 and syndecan-1 and syndecan-4 in 80 women undergoing laparoscopy during the proliferative phase, including 60 with laparoscopically and histopathologically confirmed pelvic endometriosis and 20 without endometriosis. Using ELISA, the authors found decreased sICAM-2 and increased sICAM-3, sICAM-4, syndecan-1, and syndecan-4 in women with endometriosis compared with controls, along with a negative correlation between sICAM-3 and sICAM-2 among women with endometriosis.
