Drug delivery for the treatment of endometriosis and uterine fibroids
Existing drug delivery systems like contraceptives and GnRH products, along with novel nanotechnology-based approaches, are used to manage endometriosis and uterine fibroids.

This paper reviews how drug delivery strategies have been used to manage endometriosis and uterine fibroids, contrasting existing delivery systems repurposed for symptom relief (such as vaginal rings, transdermal patches, intrauterine systems, implants, and long-acting GnRH products) with newer nanotechnology-based approaches designed to target underlying mechanisms like oxidative stress, angiogenesis, and matrix degradation. It describes representative long-acting hormonal and local delivery platforms, and lists nanoparticle materials (including silica, PLGA, cerium oxide, dendrimers, and chitosan/polyethyleneamine) investigated particularly for endometriosis and to a lesser extent for fibroids. A key limitation is that, as a narrative review, it does not provide new experimental results or a unified quantitative effectiveness comparison across the many cited modalities. This paper is centrally about endometriosis—reviewing drug delivery systems and nanotechnology approaches for endometriosis and uterine fibroids.
