This study investigated the role of Annexin-1, an endogenous anti-inflammatory mediator, in the pathogenesis of endometriosis by analyzing its expression levels in human tissues. Researchers compared eutopic endometrium samples from twenty-five women with endometriosis against sixteen age-matched controls without the condition, while also examining peritoneal fluids from ten patients with endometriosis. The results demonstrated that Annexin-1 mRNA and protein were significantly overexpressed in the eutopic endometrium of affected individuals, with protein detected primarily in glandular cells throughout the menstrual cycle. Additionally, Annexin-1 protein was consistently identified in the peritoneal fluids of all tested patients, supporting its potential involvement in disease mechanisms.
