Long-term effects of mindfulness-based psychological intervention for coping with pain in endometriosis: A six-year follow-up on a pilot study
This six-year follow-up study evaluated a mindfulness-based psychological intervention for endometriosis pain, finding lasting improvements in quality of life for all participants.

Hansen and colleagues followed up the same cohort from an earlier pilot study in 2007, recruiting 10 women with diagnosed endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain refractory to ESHRE-guideline treatments to receive a 10-session mindfulness-based psychological intervention (individual and group sessions over 10 weeks). After 6 years, participants completed the endometriosis-specific EHP-30 and the generic SF-36, and results were compared with measures taken at 12 months; they also provided retrospective transition judgments of health and pain changes. The study found no significant differences between the 12-month and 6-year mean scores on EHP-30 and nearly all SF-36 scales, indicating largely sustained improvements over time, while the authors note that conclusions remain preliminary because this was not tested in a randomized controlled trial. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — a six-year follow-up of mindfulness-based coping intervention effects on chronic endometriosis-related pain and quality of life.
