Use of tumor markers to distinguish endometriosis-related ovarian neoplasms from ovarian endometrioma
This study assessed preoperative tumor markers including CA125, CA19-9, CEA, SLX, and LDH to distinguish endometriosis-related ovarian neoplasms from ovarian endometrioma.

This retrospective single-institution study compared preoperative serum tumor markers and clinical features between 21 women with histologically confirmed endometriosis-related ovarian neoplasms (ovarian clear cell carcinoma, ovarian endometrioid carcinoma, or seromucinous borderline tumor) and 262 women with ovarian endometrioma, using CA125, CA19-9, CEA, SLX, and LDH levels alongside MRI-measured tumor size and mural nodules. CA19-9, CEA, SLX, and LDH levels differed significantly between groups, and ROC analysis found LDH to have the best screening performance, with age, tumor size, and mural nodule presence also identified as informative predictors, while CA125 did not significantly differ. A major limitation is potential selection bias due to exclusion of patients with missing marker data and the small neoplasms sample size, as well as histology composition bias from a high proportion of seromucinous borderline tumors. This paper is centrally about endometriosis-related ovarian neoplasms — it evaluates whether tumor markers (especially LDH, CA19-9, CEA, and SLX) and imaging features can distinguish them from ovarian endometrioma preoperatively.
