Abstract

Endometriosis can have a negative psychological effect on women and their partners with a significant impact on quality of life. Furthermore, a considerable larger number of sexual related health problems are reported by women with endometriosis compared to healthy women. In some cases, psychological factors can influence the perception of pain in women with endometriosis. In addition, these psychosocial factors could modify treatment results. Although research in this field is scarce, psychosexual interventions have proved to be effective in improving quality of life and sexual function of women suffering from endometriosis. Therefore, the involvement of the psychologist in the team that deals with the clinical management of the patient with endometriosis may be an added value in the diagnostic and therapeutic path of this pathology.
