Inflammatory cytokines IL-6, IL-10, IL-13, TNF-α and peritoneal fluid flora were associated with infertility in patients with endometriosis.
Inflammatory cytokines IL-6, IL-10, IL-13, and TNF-α, along with peritoneal fluid flora composition, were found to be correlated with infertility in patients diagnosed with endometriosis.

The paper investigated whether inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-10, IL-13, and TNF-α) and peritoneal fluid bacterial flora are associated with infertility in patients with endometriosis, comparing 55 endometriosis patients with infertility to 30 non-endometriosis, non-infertility controls. Using ELISA to measure cytokine levels, flow-related white blood cell counts in peritoneal fluid, and Ion Torrent PGM sequencing to profile microbial composition, the authors found higher peritoneal white cell measures and higher IL-6, IL-10, IL-13, and TNF-α levels in the endometriosis-with-infertility group than controls (p<0.05), while Proteobacteria and Firmicutes dominated in both groups. Logistic regression showed significant correlations between these inflammatory factors and endometriosis complicated with infertility. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it examines peritoneal inflammatory cytokines and microbiota associations with infertility in endometriosis patients.
