Atorvastatin exerts anti-nociceptive activity and decreases serum levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein and tumor necrosis factor-α in a rat endometriosis model

This paper studied the effects of atorvastatin on experimental endometriosis in 24 female rats, comparing daily atorvastatin (10 mg/kg for 14 days) with leuprolide acetate (1 mg/kg) and saline controls after endometriosis induction. The authors assessed endometriotic focus dimensions and performed biochemical, histopathological, and immunohistochemical analyses, along with nociception testing using a hot plate model. Atorvastatin produced significant analgesic activity and significantly reduced serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein and tumor necrosis factor-α levels, with lower histologic and immunohistochemical scores versus controls. The main caveat is that this is an animal model with short-term dosing and no explicit discussion of translation limits to humans. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it evaluates atorvastatin’s anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects in a rat endometriosis model.
