Serum interleukin-8, CA-125 levels, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratios and combined markers in the diagnosis of endometriosis
This study investigated serum IL-8, CA-125, and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio for endometriosis diagnosis, finding that combined markers achieved 80% sensitivity and 86% specificity.

This single-centre prospective group-comparative trial evaluated whether serum interleukin-8 (IL-8) and the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), alone or combined with CA-125, could diagnose endometriosis across stages, using ROC analysis. The study included 50 patients with endometriosis and 50 patients with benign ovarian cysts, measuring IL-8, NLR, and CA-125 and comparing diagnostic performance. Combined markers achieved an overall sensitivity of 80.0% and specificity of 86.0% at a cut-off value of 43.1, and mean NLR and IL-8 (and the combined marker) were higher in minimal to mild endometriosis, while mean CA-125 did not differ. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it focuses on the diagnostic value of IL-8, NLR, and their combination with CA-125 across endometriosis stages.
