Decreased expression of Beclin 1 in eutopic endometrium of women with adenomyosis
Beclin 1 mRNA and protein expression were significantly decreased in eutopic endometria of women with adenomyosis and negatively correlated with serum CA125 and pelvic pain.

This study examined whether the autophagy-related gene Beclin 1 shows altered expression in eutopic endometrium of women with adenomyosis and how expression relates to clinical features. Tissue was collected from 30 women with adenomyosis and 32 healthy controls undergoing surgery for benign indications, and Beclin 1 mRNA and protein expression were measured in cultured endometrial stromal cells and in the endometrial tissues using RT-PCR and western blotting. Beclin 1 mRNA and protein levels were significantly lower in adenomyosis samples than in controls, and within the adenomyosis group Beclin 1 protein expression in eutopic endometrial tissues was negatively correlated with serum CA125 and pelvic pain. The paper relates to endometriosis because it discusses Beclin 1 autophagy involvement in endometriosis pathogenesis and progression, and it is centrally about adenomyosis—showing decreased Beclin 1 in eutopic endometrium of women with adenomyosis.
