Correlations between endometriosis, lipid profile, and estrogen levels
This study found that triglycerides, estradiol, and CA125 were valuable indicators for predicting endometriosis, with higher triglycerides potentially correlating with greater severity.

This retrospective study analyzed clinical data from 177 premenopausal women undergoing surgery for benign adnexal masses, comparing 117 with pathologically confirmed endometriosis (stage III or IV) to 60 without endometriosis to assess relationships among estradiol (E2), lipid profile, BMI, and disease occurrence/severity. The authors found significantly higher E2, CA125, and dysmenorrhea pain scores in the endometriosis group versus controls, but no significant differences in age, lipid measurements (including HDL/LDL/total cholesterol), BMI, or comorbid adenomyosis/fibroids/endometrial polyps; scatter plots also showed no correlation between E2 and CA125 or between these markers and pain scores. Within endometriosis cases, higher E2, triglycerides (TG), CA125, and larger tumor mass size were associated with stage IV compared with stage III, and ROC analyses suggested that TG, E2, and CA125—especially combined—had predictive value for endometriosis staging. A major limitation stated in the methods is that no adjusted analysis for potential confounding factors was performed.
