A revisão bibliográfica analisou, a partir de artigos originais e revisões sistemáticas em inglês e português publicados entre 2012 e 2024 (26 estudos no total, selecionados em PubMed, Scopus e SciELO), a patogênese e o manejo da endometriose. Os autores destacam que a teoria mais aceita envolve menstruação retrógrada, com contribuições adicionais de metaplasia celômica, vestígios müllerianos e influência genética, além de participação inflamatória e angiogênica. Para o manejo, descrevem abordagens farmacológicas (como anti-inflamatórios, progestágenos e agonistas de GnRH) e cirúrgicas, com ênfase no tratamento laparoscópico e na preservação da função ovariana em mulheres que desejam engravidar. A revisão afirma que a complexidade etiopatogênica representa uma limitação ao entendimento único dos mecanismos e ao desenvolvimento de terapias mais eficazes.
