Zusammenfassung Endometriose, die wahrscheinlich häufigste benigne Erkrankung in der Frauenheilkunde, bedeutet für die betroffenen Frauen eine oftmals unerträgliche Zeit von etwa 8–10 Jahren bis zur Diagnosesicherung. Ein intensives Gespräch mit der Patientin, eine genaue gynäkologische Spiegel- und Tastuntersuchung und eine Transvaginalsonografie ermöglichen die Diagnose. Die Diagnose bedarf der Absicherung. Hier kann die MRT-Technologie einen wichtigen Beitrag liefern. Einen spezifischen Marker aus Blut oder Serum gibt es bis dato nicht – trotz intensiver Beforschung einer solchen sicherlich eleganten Option. Ob es einen hinreichend beweiskräftigen Marker geben wird und ob ein solcher wirklich sinnvoll sein kann, bleibt abzuwarten. Bis dato gilt immer noch die operative Abklärung per laparoscopiam als Goldstandard.
