A tanulmány az endometriózis pszichológiai támogatásának témáját tárgyalja, és áttekinti a betegség fő tüneteit, például a krónikus kismedencei fájdalmat, a menstruációhoz és köztes vérzéshez kapcsolódó panaszokat, valamint a termékenységi zavarok szerepét. A szerző kiemeli, hogy a diagnózis sokszor éveket késik, ami a betegek kimerüléséhez és csalódottságához, illetve az „csak a fejben van a baj” gondolatának kialakulásához vezethet; az anyagi, munkahelyi, párkapcsolati és szexuális életet érintő következmények pedig ronthatják az életminőséget és akár depresszióig fajulhatnak. Az összefoglalt, hazai és nemzetközi kérdőíves vizsgálatok szerint az endometriózis több életminőségi területen nagyobb romlással jár, mint más krónikus kismedencei fájdalomformák, és együtt mozog a gyengébb munkaképességgel; a partnerélmények és a szexuális distressz gyakorisága szintén magas.
