Deep Infiltrating Colorectal Endometriosis Treated With Robotic-Assisted Rectosigmoidectomy
This study evaluated the feasibility and short-term outcomes of robotic-assisted laparoscopic colorectal resection in ten women with deep infiltrating bowel endometriosis.

This preliminary single-center study evaluated feasibility and early outcomes of robotic-assisted laparoscopic colorectal resection for deep infiltrating colorectal endometriosis in 10 women with rectosigmoid lesions confirmed by transvaginal ultrasonography with bowel preparation. Using a standardized surgical approach (en bloc removal with bowel transection, often with total mesorectal excision and en bloc excision of other pelvic endometriosis sites), the authors reported mean operative time of 157 minutes, average docking time of 12 minutes, no intraoperative or postoperative complications, no blood transfusions, no diverting stoma creation, and hospital discharge on postoperative day 3 in all cases. At ≥12 months follow-up, symptoms such as dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, dyschezia, and bowel-related complaints disappeared in all women, and among six women with preoperative infertility, 4 conceived naturally and 2 underwent IVF; histology confirmed glandular and stromal endometriosis in all patients. The main caveat is the small, uncontrolled sample limited to feasibility and short- to medium-term symptom assessment rather than definitive comparative efficacy. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it presents robotic-assisted rectosigmoidectomy outcomes specifically for deep infiltrating colorectal endometriosis.
