Evaluation of Cases of Abdominal Wall Endometriosis at Universidade Estadual de Campinas in a period of 10 Years
This study analyzed 52 women with abdominal wall endometriosis, finding pain and a mass as common symptoms, frequent prior cesarean sections, and a high recurrence rate linked to compromised surgical margins.

This retrospective study evaluated the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of abdominal wall endometriosis in 52 women treated at a Brazilian university hospital between 2004 and 2014. The findings indicated that most patients were around 31 years old with a history of cesarean section, presenting primarily with painful nodules in surgical scars, while the disease recurrence rate was notably high at 26.9%, significantly exceeding literature averages. The authors attributed this elevated recurrence to compromised surgical margins in prior operations and potentially less rigorous intraoperative precautions during resident-performed surgeries at their tertiary care center. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — specifically focusing on the clinical presentation, risk factors, and high recurrence rates associated with abdominal wall endometriosis following cesarean sections.
