Chronic Endometritis and Endometriosis: Two Sides of the Same Coin?
This meta-analysis found a 28% prevalence of chronic endometritis in women with endometriosis, which was double the prevalence in controls, and higher in more advanced endometriosis stages.

This systematic review and meta-analysis examined observational studies assessing the association between chronic endometritis and endometriosis and estimating the prevalence of chronic endometritis among women with endometriosis, using database searches up to May 2022 and Newcastle–Ottawa Scale quality assessment. Across six included studies (five in the meta-analysis), chronic endometritis prevalence in women with endometriosis was 28%, and it was higher in rASRM stage III–IV (43%) versus stage I–II (25%); compared with control groups, women with endometriosis had higher odds of chronic endometritis (OR = 2.07, 95% CI 1.11–3.84; I2 = 43%). The authors’ caveat is that the evidence base consisted of observational studies and diagnostic and stage-related heterogeneity may limit certainty. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it synthesizes evidence linking endometriosis with chronic endometritis and quantifies prevalence and risk across disease stages.
