This paper is an updated review addressing how immunological mechanisms are involved in the etiopathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of endometriosis, focusing on the role of immune cells and cytokines in both cellular and humoral responses. It frames endometriosis as having unresolved gaps about its origin and highlights that understanding how endometrial tissue implants at extrauterine sites would advance diagnostic and treatment approaches. The key emphasis is the synthesis of evidence linking immune dysregulation with disease development and potential clinical management perspectives, but as a review it does not present new experimental data itself and remains limited to the scope of previously published investigations. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it is a review specifically focused on the role of immunology across its development, diagnosis, and treatment.

Abstract

Presently, several endometriosis features are subject of researchdue to some gaps that remain concerning the actual origin of thisdisease. If one could find out how endometrial tissue implants inextrauterine sites, its diagnosis and treatment would advancesignificantly. One of the leading investigations focus onimmunological issues, since different cells and cytokines takepart in cellular and humoral immune response in the developmentof endometriosis. This article proposes an updated review of therelation between endometriosis and immunology and brings newclinical perspectives for disease management.
