Influence of Ovarian Endometrioma on Expression of Steroid Receptor RNA Activator, Estrogen Receptors, Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, and Thrombospondin 1 in the Surrounding Ovarian Tissues
Ovarian endometrioma alters the expression of steroid receptor RNA activator, estrogen receptors, VEGF, and TSP-1 in surrounding ovarian tissues, decreasing SRA and ER-α while increasing SRAP, ER-β, and TSP-1, and decreasing VEGF.

This study examined how ovarian endometrioma affects expression of steroid receptor RNA activator (SRA), estrogen receptors (ER-α and ER-β), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and thrombospondin 1 (TSP-1) in ovarian tissue surrounding the lesions. Biopsies were collected during laparoscopy from women with ovarian endometrioma and from controls with mature teratoma, and SRA/ER/angiogenic factor expression was assessed using real-time PCR and Western blot. Surrounding endometrioma tissue showed lower SRA and ER-α levels but higher SRA protein (SRAP) and ER-β compared with endometrioma tissue, and relative to controls it showed higher SRA, SRAP, ER-α, ER-β, with lower VEGF and higher TSP-1, suggesting altered molecular expression around endometrioma. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it specifically analyzes how ovarian endometrioma changes steroid receptor and angiogenic factor expression in adjacent ovarian tissue.
