Oxidative Stress and Antioxidant Capacity in Patients with Endometrioma

This study used peritoneal fluid collected at the beginning of surgery from 30 patients with endometrioma (EMO) and 13 patients without EMO (uterine myoma) to assess oxidative stress capacity and antioxidant capacity using d-ROM (reactive oxygen metabolites), BAP (biological antioxidant potential), and their ratio (d-ROM/BAP). The authors found that the d-ROM/BAP ratio was significantly higher in the EMO group than in controls, indicating an imbalance favoring oxidative stress. In patients with EMO, the d-ROM/BAP ratio showed positive correlations with CA125 levels, revised ASRM (r-ASRM) scores, and was used to link oxidative stress status with factors that worsen EMO.
