This retrospective study analyzed 299 hysterectomy specimens from abdominal, laparoscopic, and vaginal procedures performed for benign indications at a single hospital to determine how frequently adenomyosis appeared on histopathologic evaluation. Adenomyosis was found in 79 cases (26.4%), and its frequency was higher among patients with abnormal uterine bleeding. At preoperative endometrial sampling, adenomyosis was more common when irregular proliferative endometrium, endometrial hyperplasia, or endometrial polyps were reported (p<0.001). Pelvic pain was not a significant predictor of adenomyosis in this analysis.
