C57BL/6J 7–8-week-old recipient mice received intraperitoneal inoculation with donor mouse endometrial tissue and blood to induce endometriosis, and activin A (400 μg intraperitoneally for 5 days) was compared with a control condition. Activin A–treated mice had significantly larger maximum lesion diameters and greater total lesion area, and their washed ascites showed higher IL-6 and TNF-α levels. This study supports a role for activin in promoting lesion development and inflammation, and this paper is centrally about endometriosis—intraperitoneal activin A administration to promote endometriotic lesion development in mice.
