The Estimated Prevalence and Incidence of Endometriosis With the Korean National Health Insurance Service-National Sample Cohort (NHIS-NSC): A National Population-Based Study
This study estimated endometriosis prevalence and incidence in Korea using national health insurance claims, finding lower rates than previous high-risk studies but a significant increase in younger age groups.

This paper estimated the prevalence and incidence of endometriosis in Korea using a retrospective cohort design based on Korean National Health Insurance Service-National Sample Cohort claims data covering about 1 million people from 2002 to 2013, focusing on patients aged 15–54 and calculating estimates by time and age groups. The age-adjusted prevalence increased from 2.12 per 1,000 persons in 2002 to 3.56 per 1,000 persons in 2013, while the average adjusted incidence showed no statistically significant overall increase. In contrast, age-specific incidence increased significantly among younger groups (15–19 and 20–24 years) from 2003 to 2013, but decreased in midlife groups (40–44 and 45–49 years) over the same period. The paper relates to endometriosis by providing national population-based estimates of its prevalence and incidence in Korean women, showing rising diagnosis in younger age groups. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it estimates its national prevalence and incidence in Korea using insurance claims data.
