This paper describes how a single Obstetrics and Gynecology department characterized its research program with an emphasis on translating findings into clinical prevention, diagnosis, and therapy in both obstetrics and gynecology, covering topics such as benign and preneoplastic female reproductive diseases (including uterine fibroids, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, and endometriosis), gynecological oncology, pre-eclampsia, and obstetric complications. It presents a historical overview and current developments of these main research areas rather than a single original experimental study. The abstract provides no specific methods, participant population, outcomes, or stated limitations, since the chapter is mainly descriptive. Relevance to endometriosis: endometriosis is explicitly listed among the department’s main research areas within benign and preneoplastic diseases of the female reproductive system, though the paper’s main focus is a broad history and overview of research-to-practice efforts.

Abstract

The research activity of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Section of our Department (Dipartimento di Scienze Cliniche Specialistiche ed Odontostomatologiche—Università Politecnica delle Marche) was characterized from strong interest to clinical application of our findings, with the aim of improving prevention, diagnosis and therapy both in Obstetrics and in Gynecology. Here we present the history and the current developments of our main research areas: benign and preneoplastic diseases of the female reproductive system (uterine fibroids, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, endometriosis), gynecological oncology, pre-eclampsia, and obstetric complications.
