This retrospective audit analyzed histopathological examination (HPE) findings in 152 hysterectomy specimens from non-oncological gynecologic indications at a North Indian teaching institute (January 2015 to July 2016), comparing preoperative diagnoses with final pathology across abdominal and vaginal procedures. Uterovaginal prolapse was the most common preoperative indication overall, fibroid uterus was the commonest abdominal indication, and the most frequent histopathology included fibroid changes in myometrium, chronic cervicitis in the cervix, and functional ovarian cysts. The study reported that adenomyosis was the most missed pathology preoperatively, that DUB had the least HPE correlation, and that unremarkable HPE occurred in 12.5% of cases (all operated for uterovaginal prolapse).
