This integrative review qualitatively and descriptively examined the relationship between depression and endometriosis, searching PubMed and SciELO for the last 5 years with the descriptors Depression and Endometriosis, ultimately including 4 articles out of 192. The analysis reported that shared genetic factors, such as the DGKB rs12666606 region, and chronic pain associated with endometriosis are influential, and it also noted that gastrointestinal (gastric) alterations may play a role. A major limitation explicitly reflected by the review is the very small number of included studies after screening and reliance on descriptive synthesis. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it focuses on synthesizing recent evidence linking endometriosis with depression.
