Co-expression of bone morphogenetic protein 6 with estrogen receptor a in endometriosis
This study found intense cytoplasmic expression of BMP-6 in ectopic endometrium of endometriosis patients, highly associated with strong ERa expression.

This prospective immunohistochemical study examined BMP-6 expression and its relationship with estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) in 85 consecutive women undergoing surgery for endometriosis, using ectopic endometriotic lesion specimens stained for both proteins. Ectopic endometrium showed intense cytoplasmic BMP-6 immunoreactivity in both epithelium and stroma, and BMP-6 expression was strongly associated with high ERα expression. The authors note that while the correlation may relate to estrogen-rich microenvironment mechanisms, it requires further investigation, and the work primarily establishes expression and association rather than causality. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it focuses on co-expression of BMP-6 with ERα in ectopic endometriotic tissues.
