[Analysis of the factors contributing to endometriosis in China and UK].

This paper used a case-control design to investigate factors associated with endometriosis and potential differences between Chinese and UK patients. The authors recruited 387 endometriosis cases and 199 non-cases from Oxford (John Radcliffe Hospital) and 101 cases and 50 non-cases from Guangzhou First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, collecting standardized data via the WERF EPHect questionnaire covering anthropometrics, menstrual and reproductive history, prior surgeries, and clinical context. Multivariable logistic regression found that in UK patients, higher BMI, surgery for dysmenorrhea, history of pregnancy, number of previous endometriosis surgeries, and work status were associated with endometriosis, whereas in Chinese patients dysmenorrhea history was associated. The study’s limitation, as reflected by the cross-sectional retrospective case-control approach and reliance on questionnaire-reported exposures, is that it cannot establish causality; overall, pain-related history appears central but risk factor profiles may differ across settings. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it compares associated risk factors for endometriosis between China and the UK.
